Capturing the First Newborn Moments –

Without the Last-Minute Stress

Your baby’s first days at home are fleeting — a haze of sleepy snuggles, tiny fingers, and that unmistakable newborn scent. If you’re dreaming of capturing this precious time, you might be wondering: When is the best time to book a newborn photoshoot?

The short answer? As early as possible. But don’t worry — if your due date shifts (because babies have their own schedules!), there’s still a way to make it work.

Let’s break it all down, so you can book with confidence.

The Best Time for Newborn Photos:

5–14 Days After Birth

Newborn photographers recommend capturing those sleepy, curled-up moments within the first two weeks after birth—ideally between days 5 and 14. At this stage:

✔️ Babies are naturally sleepy and easier to settle.

✔️ Their features are still soft and delicate.

✔️ They naturally curl into those cozy, womb-like poses.

After two weeks, babies become more alert, stretch out more, and develop new patterns. While you can absolutely book a session later, the first two weeks are a magical window for that signature newborn look.

Why You Should Book During Pregnancy (Ideally in the Second Trimester!)

Many parents wait until their baby is born to book a session — only to find that their preferred photographer is fully booked. To avoid this:

Book in advance — ideally in your second trimester. This guarantees a spot and gives you time to plan.

⭐ Many newborn photographers limit the number of sessions per month to provide a relaxed, personalized experience.

⭐ Planning ahead means one less thing to worry about after birth, when you’ll be adjusting to newborn life.

What If My Baby Arrives Early or Late? (Don’t Worry—There’s Flexibility!)

Newborns rarely arrive exactly on their due date. The good news? Photographers who specialise in newborns expect this!

📅 Your booking is typically secured around your due date, with flexible scheduling if your little one arrives early or late.

📅 If your baby is already here and you haven’t booked — reach out anyway!

There may still be availability, and slightly older newborns (2–4 weeks) can still have a beautiful session.
