There’s something truly magical about a family’s first Christmas together, and when I was invited to capture such a precious moment, I knew it would be filled with warmth, love, and a dash of holiday chaos. This Christmas photoshoot at home was all about blending family traditions, capturing the little moments, and celebrating the joy of their daughter’s very first Christmas.
From the start, it was clear that this session would be unique. The family had shared their hopes for the shoot — they didn’t have many traditions together yet, but they were excited to blend Estonian and Scottish elements. One tradition, though, stood out: gingerbread baking. And of course, the most important thing for them was simply being together as a family.
A Day of CoSy Christmas Moments
When I arrived, we began family photo session by focusing on what their little girl loved most: reading books and playing with her favorite toys. Her bright eyes lit up as she explored her familiar surroundings, from the pages of her favourite storybook to her beloved plush toys. Capturing her pure joy and curiosity was an absolute delight, and it set the tone for the rest of the photo session.
Next, we gathered around to decorate the Christmas tree. There’s nothing quite like the magic of a tree covered in twinkling lights, delicate ornaments, and the scent of pine in the air. The family worked together, hanging ornaments and sharing smiles, with their daughter eagerly watching every move. Her curiosity was infectious, and her tiny hands couldn’t resist reaching for the sparkling decorations.

Baking Gingerbread: A Sweet Family Tradition
Then came one of the most heartwarming parts of the day — baking gingerbread. The family rolled out the dough, cut out festive shapes, and filled the kitchen with the sweet aroma of Christmas. It’s these little moments, the ones where flour dusts the countertops and everyone sneaks a taste of the dough, that truly make family traditions feel special.
The Joy of Unwrapping Presents
Of course, what’s Christmas without presents? The unwrapping was pure joy. The little one’s excitement over each carefully wrapped gift was palpable. There’s something so magical about watching a child’s face light up with every rip of wrapping paper and the discovery of a new treasure inside. I captured those precious moments as she explored her new toys, and it was clear that this first Christmas would be one to remember.
